Art Jewelry

Virgin Mother by Damien Hirst. Plaza of Lever House, New York City

This is by far my favorite art jeweler because of the sheer awe of his pieces.  Damien Hirst is one of the top British contemporary jewelers.  This piece titled, "Skull and Bones", is fabricated in platinum and diamonds and is life size!  The total carat weight is 1106.18.  Also the piece by Garrard titled "Guns and Roses" is an amazing piece made in platinum and diamonds. 3. Wow these are really neat. They are definitely deserving of some awe. I feel like a photograph must not do them justice, to be able to be there and see or hold that skull would make it so much more really and just the sheer value you would be holding in your hand is mind blowing. I love when artists go all out and create opulent works like this that just blow your mind with all the sparkle!

  4. WOAH! Fancy stuff here! Bling bling and I like it. In some ways it could go as fine jewelry as well since it is made of such nice things! AND life since that's crazy!!! Where does this designer get the money?!?! Thanks for sharing!!!

  5. Why do you consider these pieces to be art jewelry?

  6. I consider Damien Hurst and Garrard pieces to be art jewelry because they are one of a kind and the sheer awe of the craftsman ship surpasses any other fabricated piece, in my opinion. Hand fabricted, the skull is cast in platinum and then each diamond set with craft and skill. The pieces were made with the intent of exhibition and I believe that the skull was a comissioned piece.

  7. Kim brought up a great question. Is art jewelry still considered art jewelry if it comes as an idea to the artist but is executed by someone else? I am torn by this question because one hand I think it is art because so many artists do have help with producing their pieces while on the other hand the true integrity of an artists piece should be produced solely by the artist. What do you guys think?
